Gallery Images Most of the interior pictures here were taken in my home studio, using various rooms and fairly simple (and cheap) to assemble sets and whatever props I had which were appropriate. As those who do similar work will know, the major constraint on shooting this way is space. This usually comes in the problem of space to position lights in positions which dont intrude upon the shot or my shooting position and dont appear in reflections from mirrors, windows and the like in the shot itself.
However it also creates challenges in regard to depth of field, (I usually shoot around f4/5.6 to minimise the prominence of the space around the subject) and the limited distance within which I can move. Given this you might be inclined to ask (as I have often asked myself) why not make it easier and hire space studio?
Apart from the cost of hiring, which is a factor but not a critical one, I find the main disadvantages of studio work to be fairly stock sets, which even if they are individualistic and distinctive have lost their originality by being used by a lot of other photographers, and usually far too limited in set-up time to think up and set up the shoot in the way that is personal to me that I would like.
Yes I do use two or three stock set ups at home, you may even spot one or two from different shoots, but at least I am the only one who has used them. I can also say that there have always been slight difference and they have never been identically set up. Usually they get changed from reviewing the shots after - I invariable think of ways I could have done it better or maybe just differently.
Often of course the looks of a particular model – say her hair colouring – dictate certain things like the background colour and lighting, so the home environment represents an ever changing and learning one and I certainly would not be able to recreate that in a professional studio.
Services I am available for and undertake both studio and outdoor work. If you are interested in using my services then please contact me. As I have said elsewhere, I am intending to make the Gallery sets available to purchase for download and hope to be adding advice to this site in that regard shortly. Iif you are interested in that regard or there is anything here you want to buy a print of then please email me.
